Man injures himself with knife; faces charges

Jasper — A Jasper man was charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon stemming from an incident that occurred at the Germantown Shopping Center last week.

Police were called to the parking lot at the shopping center on Thursday at about 12:35 p.m. for the report of a fight in progress involving a knife. When officers arrived they found Christopher A. Wilz, 26, of Wernsing Road, with injuries to his arm and abdomen apparently caused by the knife he was wielding as he chased another man.

According to police, Wilz pulled the knife on the other man during the altercation. That man left the scene before officers arrived.

Wilz was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He ws charged with a Level 6 felony count of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and booked into the Dubois County Security Center Monday.

Jasper police were assisted by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services during last Thursday’s incident.
