Man extricated from SUV in icy crash

A Birdseye man was injured and had to extricated from his SUV after a slideoff crash on Schnellville Road Tuesday.

According to authorities, Dusty H. Corn, 25, of W. State Road 64, was eastbound on Schnellville Road in a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer at about 1:35 p.m. when it lost traction on the road east of the 600E intersection. The SUV slid off the right side of the road and struck a fence post with the driver’s side door.

The SUV reentered the roadway and slid left of center before stopping on the other side of the road.

Corn suffered an injury to the upper portion of his left leg and was unable to get out of the vehicle. Schnellville and St. Anthony First Responders extricated him from the SUV and he was take to Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

Two passengers, Amanda J. Smith, 22, and Lakota L. Smith, 4, who share the same address as Corn, were not injured in the accident.

The Chevrolet was considered a total loss.

Hasenour Motor Company assisted at the scene with a tow truck.
