The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a murder that occurred in Milltown Saturday night.

According to the sheriff’s department, an ambulance and police were called to 109 Church Street by Steven T. Broughton, 24, at about 9:20 p.m. Broughton, who was later identified as the suspect in the murder, told the dispatcher Larry L. McDonnell Jr. 41, had been hit in the head with a baseball bat, police said.

Deputies arriving at the scene located Broughton in the front bedroom of the residence where he was taken into custody without incident. The victim was located in an adjacent room deceased with blunt force trauma to the head.

Though the investigation is continuing, domestic violence and verbal abuse appear to be contributing factors in this homicide. However, there was no record of officers being sent to the residence in the past.

The suspect is being held in the Crawford County Jail charged with murder.

An autopsy will be scheduled for the victim in the case.

In addition to the sheriff’s department the Indiana State Police are assisting in the investigation. Crawford County Emergency Medical Services and the Milltown Fire Department also responded to the scene.
