Man arrested after driving around high-water barricades

Police arrested Zachary B. Hamilton, 30, of Alois Court, Jasper, after he allegedly gave police a false identification during a traffic stop Sunday.
According to police, an officer stopped the Chevrolet Camaro Hamilton was driving after observing it go around the barricades near the intersection of Second and Clay streets at about 3 p.m. During the stop, Hamilton told police he didn’t have his driver’s license with him and identified himself as William Supper of Evansville.
Officers attempted to verify his identification and found a William Supper with a different birth date than the one Hamilton gave. Officers confirmed the information Hamilton had given them and then place him under arrest for false informing.
A wrecker was called to the scene to remove the vehicle Hamilton was operating and while an inventory of its contents was being completed, a driver’s license belonging to Hamilton was found tucked in the driver’s side door. The photo on the license matched Hamilton.
Police ran the information and determined Hamilton’s license was suspended with a prior conviction. He also had two warrants out of Dubois County on a marijuana charge and a failure to return to lawful detention as well as a warrant out of Orange County for a failure to appear for a charge of driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
Police booked Hamilton into the Dubois County Security Center for the counts of false informing and driving while suspended with a prior in addition to the active warrants.
