M. Jane Gramelspacher, 88, of Jasper, passed away at 10:10 a.m on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper, Indiana surrounded by her loving family.

Jane was born in Jasper, Indiana on September 22, 1926 to Grover E. and Lucille (Beckman) Salb. She married Glenn H. Gramelspacher on August 6, 1949 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Jane received a BA from Indiana University and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha and a devoted Hoosier fan. She taught at Jasper High School and was a substitute teacher for many years.

She gave back to the community she loved by serving on the Jasper Parks and Recreation Board along with the board for building the new Jasper High School. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper where she was an active volunteer and a member of their St. Ann’s Society and the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of Tri Kappa Associates, The American Legion Post #147 Auxiliary, and OLGA (Old Ladies Golf Association). Jane was an avid reader and outstanding athlete who enjoyed walking, tennis, and golf which she continued to play into her 80’s. She devoted and enjoyed much time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn H. Gramelspacher of Jasper; one son, Glenn H. Gramelspacher II and his wife Margaret, of Jasper; four daughters, Sherry Philbrick of Jasper, Terry Habig and her husband Tom Howell, of Anchorage, Alaska, Lisa Pugh and her husband Tim, of Alpharetta, Ga., and Micki Jerry and her husband Kevin, La Grange, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Nick and Chris Gramelspacher, Boomer Philbrick, Colby, Kelly (Gabriel) and Luke Habig, Brady and Brittney Pugh, and Brock Jerry; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. J.P. Salb, of Jasper.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Salb and Earl “Bud” Salb, and two sons-in-law, Randy Habig and Jim Philbrick.

Funeral services for M. Jane Gramelspacher will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 6, 2015.
