Lydia Betz awarded Brames Family Scholarship

The Brames Family Scholarship selection committee is excited to announce that the 2026 recipient is Lydia Betz. Lydia is currently a senior at Purdue University.

The Brames Family Scholarship was established in the fall of 1999 to promote the advancement of the “teaching profession” and to honor the Brames family’s lifelong commitment to the education of children. The scholarship is awarded to a student who is a member of Divine Mercy Parish in Dubois County, studying to become a teacher.

Betz is the 21-year-old daughter of Brian and Sara Betz of St. Anthony. Lydia has been a lifelong member of Divine Mercy Parish. As a member of Divine Mercy, Lydia has been a server, reader, eucharistic minister, parish council youth representative, youth group member/officer, and has taken part in four parish-led mission trips.

Lydia graduated from Forest Park High School in 2023. While at Forest Park, she was a member of Student Council, BETA, Rangers for Christ, SADD, a three-year member of the varsity softball team, a one-year member of the volleyball team, and a four-year member of the basketball team (winning two state titles).

After high school, Lydia attended Cedarville University in Ohio, studying Social Studies Education and was a member of the women’s basketball team. Lydia transferred to Purdue University in 2024.

Lydia and her parents would like to thank the Brames Family Scholarship selection committee for this honor.
