LTTE: Nancy has my vote

Nancy has my vote.

As many of you are know, Nancy Habig is running for the Greater Jasper School Board.

I met Nancy seven years ago. I didn’t know her except that she was on the school board.  To be honest, I was surprised that a person who no longer had children in school would want to run for office. Plus with her financial resources, she doesn’t need the money or insurance that comes with the position.

Then I began to learn Nancy has a passion for our school and our city. She is a civic-minded person who raised three kids and is involved with her grandchildren.  She is a voracious reader, looking for ways to improve our schools, reviewing the nutrition of school lunches, researching other school systems to implement programs and policies to help our kids. Nancy is a life-long Girl Scout. Who looks forward to camping in a tent with a group of teenage girls in August?  She does!

She is on the board of several organizations and is a strong advocate for the arts. In 2007 Nancy won the Indiana School Boards Association Outstanding Boardsmanship Award. She took the initiative to have speakers address our teachers and students on issues behind bullying. That hits close to my heart, as each of my kids have dealt with this painful experience. Her credentials earned her a place at the Athena awards banquet held in August.

She has the respect of so many retired teachers. She has high standards, and continues to press on to expect more of herself and others. It really doesn’t matter what she knows until you’ve had a chance see how much she cares. She spends her time, talent, and resources to help our kids

Most people look forward to retirement after twenty-eight years. Not Nancy, she’s on fire to make our school system a better place for our children and our city a better place to live. That’s why she was asked to be on the Jasper Redevelopment Commission.

That’s why I’m voting for Nancy Habig for Greater Jasper School Board.
