Loval Richard Zehr, 68, Birdseye

Loval Richard Zehr, 68, Birdseye, passed away Tuesday morning, May 10, 2016, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville. 

He was born November 5, 1947, in Birdseye to Theodore and Anna Lois (Hollen) Zehr.

He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Richard married Joyce Fern Lagenour on February 15, 1974, in Jasper; and was a lifelong construction worker. He was employed at Jasper Lumber Company and then Blitz Builders, where he retired as yard coordinator and was affectionately known as “Moose”.

Richard enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, his beloved dog Zeus, craft projects and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clyston Zehr; and two sisters, June Norman and infant Carol Jean Zehr. 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce F. Zehr of Birdseye; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin (Elaine) Kelley of Birdseye, Mark (Jodi) Kelley of Ferdinand, and twins William “Cody” Zehr and Martin “Kit” Zehr, both of Birdseye; one brother, Elvis (Alice) Zehr of St. Meinrad; six sisters, Beulah Curl of Madison, Mildred Giesler of Jasper, Edna (Harold) Bolden of Birdseye, Norma Porter of Santa Claus, Janice Wright of Jasper and Connie (Larry) Wooldridge of Meriden, Connecticut; thirteen grandchildren, Logan Kelley, James Kelley, Viva Nicole Kelley, Christy Kelley, Brandon Kelley, Amanda Davis, Jessica Davis, Rebecca “Becky” Davis, John Davis II, Shawntia “Tia” Zehr, Emerald “Emmi” Zehr, Kayli Gramelspacher and Tyler “T.J.” Gramelspacher; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Loval Richard Zehr will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with Rev. Albert Madden officiating.

Graveside committal services and Interment for Richard Zehr will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Mentor Cemetery near Birdseye. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 memorial detail.
