Local police taking to the roofs to raise money for Special Olympics

Officers and Deputies will solicit donations from Dunkin’ customers on May 15 as part of statewide fundraiser

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #138 will join 50 other Indiana law enforcement agencies to partner with Special Olympics Indiana and Dunkin’ stores on Friday, May 15, for Cop on a Rooftop.

Officers/Deputies will be stationed at the Dunkin’ store at Jasper (3085 Newton St.) and Ferdinand (460 Main St.) from 5 a.m. to noon.

Visitors to participating Dunkin’ stores can donate money and learn more about their local Special Olympics Indiana program. Police and safety officers will be stationed in, around and on top of the stores from 5 a.m. to noon to help support and raise awareness for the 20,000 Hoosier athletes who train and compete for free within Special Olympics.

Individuals who donate to Cop on a Rooftop receive a coupon for a free donut. Those who donate $10 or more receive a coupon for a free medium hot coffee.

“Cop on a Rooftop gives us a unique way to connect with our community while supporting something that truly matters,” Dubois County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Clint W Gogel said. “Every dollar raised helps provide opportunities for Special Olympics athletes to train, compete and build confidence. As officers, we’re proud to stand behind these athletes and be part of a program that promotes inclusion, teamwork and respect across our communities.”

To date, Cop on a Rooftop events have raised more than $125,000 for Special Olympics Indiana.
