A local graduate is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Mike Braun (R-Jasper) and his fellow members of the House of Representatives during the 2017 legislative session.

Emily Messmer, a resident of Jasper, is the daughter of Roger and Mary Jo Messmer. She is a Jasper High School graduate and currently attends Purdue University where she is majoring in marketing and management and minoring in law and society.

As an intern in the House Majority Communications Office, Messmer helps create legislative handouts, write press releases and set up press conferences.

“As a communications intern, Emily has helped draft press releases, e-newsletters and other materials on important issues facing our community and state,” Braun said. “This internship is a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in state government. It’s been great working with Emily this session, and I strongly encourage interested students from my district to apply next year.”

The House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
