Local government units among those awarded Community Crossings matching grants

Dubois County and Birdseye were among the many communities Mike Braun and the Indiana Department of Transportation announced were awarded Community Crossings matching grants for local road and bridge projects.

More than $200 million was awarded across 245 Indiana cities, towns, and counties. Birdseye will receive $93,907.50, and Dubois County will receive the maximum grant amount of $1.5 million.

Also in Southern Indiana, Harrison, Knox, Monroe, Perry, Spencer, Warrick, and Washington counties as well as the City of Evansville received the maximum allocation of $1.5 million.

“Improving and maintaining roads and bridges at all levels is crucial for enhancing quality of life and public safety for Hoosiers,” said Gov. Braun. “Communities across the state need investment in their local infrastructure and we are pleased to partner with them to make necessary improvements.”

Communities submitted applications for funding during a highly competitive call for projects in January. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund. Community Crossings has provided more than $2 billion for local road improvement projects since its inception in 2016.

State legislators identified long-term funding for Community Crossings as part of House Enrolled Act 1002, passed in 2017.
