Local bands perform well at Jasper ISSMA District
The ISSMA District Marching Band competition was held Saturday at Jerry Brewer Alumni Stadium as 30 bands took to the field to try to march their way into Regional competition on October 13th.
In Class D, Forest Park, Southridge and Springs Valley each came away with Gold ratings. Forest Park picked up Best General Effect and Visual, while Springs Valley took Best Music. These three bands now move on to Regionals as do the other 8 that were awarded a gold rating.
The two bands that got Silver and therefore will not move on to Regionals included Northeast Dubois and Tecumseh.
In Class C, of the bands that are closest to us, Pike Central, Heritage Hills and Boonville each picked up Gold ratings. The only Silver rating in the Class was Washington.
Gibson Southern was awarded Best Music, Vincennes Lincoln got Best General Effect and Best Visual was given to Princeton.
Nine of the ten bands in Class C move on to Regionals.
Competition in Class B was tough this year, but Jasper not only came away with a Gold rating, they also were picked for Best Music and Best Visual for their performance called “Trinity.” All of the other 5 bands in the class also received Gold ratings. Best General Effect was awarded to Floyd Central.
Finally, the only Class A band in the competition was Castle, which earned a Gold rating along with Best Music, General Effect and Visual.
Coming up this weekend is the last competitions for bands to perform in which they can hone their programs before Regionals on October 13th.
Jasper will march in Class B and Springs Valley in Class D at the Cavalcade of Champions competition at Center Grove High School in Greenwood on Saturday.
At the Heritage Hills Invitational on Saturday, these bands will perform: Heritage Hills, Boonville, Pike Central, Crawford County, Tell City, Tecumseh and South Spencer.
Forest Park is not marching in competition this weekend, in anticipation of Regionals. No information could be found on Southridge plans for this weekend.
