Little Spruce Nature School was a little difficult to get to last Thursday with the snow conditions at the former Camp Carnes location, so they moved the school to the Dubois County Museum.
Director Carrie Holdsworth took the 13 pre-K children through the various exhibits and entertained them as they explored the many items and interactive displays.

The kids take time to view the interior of the full-size log cabin in the museum with Carrie pointing out and explaining the different items on display.
Carrie ensures the children understand the animals in the room they are about to enter are not alive, though they were at one time. She spent time pointing out the different native species and asking questions about the different animals on display.
Carrie asked the children to spread their arms out and imagine how big the wingspan of the eagle on display.
What do you think this, Carrie asked. Answers ranged from a chicken coop to a small cabin until she opened the door and showed them the two-hole outhouse interior. When explaining this is where they would use the restroom, a few questioning “ohhhs” were heard from the children.
The group celebrated Bram Terry’s fifth birthday which was Jan. 7. This was the first day the school had been able to convene this week, so they celebrated it a bit belatedly with him. Carrie went through the years of Bram’s life pointing out fun facts about him and his growth and then she and kids sang a song about his circling the sun one more year as Bram carried the globe around the circle.
