Linus L. Humbert, 92, of Ireland, passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
Linus was born in Celestine, Indiana, on August 8, 1932, to Leo and Clara (Kleinhelter) Humbert.
He married Helen Sermersheim on August 22, 1959, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2014.
He was a United States Army veteran stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas.
He was a lifetime farmer and had owned his own sawmill.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, the Ireland K of C, and the Ireland Sportsman’s Club.
Linus enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising beef cattle, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by three children, Dan (Teresa) Humbert of Celestine, Bonnie Bowlin of Ireland, and Carla (Dannie) Rice of Cynthiana; eight grandchildren, Adam, who lived with and was caregiver for his grandpa, Alex, Andrew, and Austin Deffendall, Hannah (Brandon) Enlow and Elle Humbert, and Collin and Connor Bowlin; two great-grandchildren, Shylee and Winnie Enlow; his grand dog, Izzy Rice; and two sisters, Aileen Lueken of Celestine and Margie Marks of Celestine.
Preceding him in death besides his wife are one daughter, Gail Deffendall, a son-in-law, Barry Bowlin, two sisters, Irene Lueken and Betty Hassfurther and one brother, Robert Humbert.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heart-to-Heart Hospice, Nurse Diane Jones, Amy Tempel, and Rhonda Robling, as well as Crystal Allen and Doris Harris for their exceptional care.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Linus L. Humbert will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana, with burial to follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Ireland. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rites.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Wednesday.
