Lillian F. Eckert, 90, Ireland

Lillian F. Eckert, 90, of Ireland, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

Lillian was born in Ireland on July 2, 1927, to Milton and Geneva (Kearby) Armstrong. She married Urban Eckert on September 11, 1948, in St. Joseph Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on August 15, 2010.

She was a homemaker and had worked in the Ireland school cafeteria.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland and their St. Anne’s Society, and the Ireland Sportsman’s Club.

Lillian enjoyed puzzles, collecting Hallmark ornaments and dolls, watching FOX news, and was a St. Louis Cardinals, Indiana Pacers and IU basketball fan.

Surviving is one daughter, Susan (Terry) Vonderheide of Ireland; three sons, Jeff Eckert of Jasper, Rich (Jean) Eckert of Ireland, Keith (Sheila) Eckert of Ireland; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Judy Crane of Valencia, Calif., Esther (Kenny) Grundhoeffer of Evansville, and Linda Beard of Jasper; and one brother, Charles “Pete” (Mary Ann) Armstrong of Jasper.

Preceding her in death beside her husband was one sister, Hilma Stenftenagel; three brothers, Lester, Howard and Donald Armstrong, and one brother who died in infancy; and a daughter-in-law, Kelli Eckert.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Lillian F. Eckert will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, with burial to follow at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time on Monday, February 26, 2018, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church Building Fund, the Kelli Eckert Scholarship Fund or a favorite charity.
