Libraries make plans to allow book pickups
The Jasper-Dubois Public Library has announced it will offer “Library-To-Go” times so residents can pick up books they’ve requested online or by phone.
Huntingburg Public Library is making plans to offer similar services but have not announced details yet.
In Jasper, starting next week, materials will be put in plastic bags with your name on them and placed in the vestibule for no-contact pick-up.
Staff will offer essential document services like faxing, printing and copying along with computer usage to file necessary documents. That will be by appointment only.
Due dates will continue to be extended until the Stay-At-Home order is lifted.
The library drop boxes are already open.
The library is recommending that patrons continue to follow all stay-at-home guidelines and only drop off on existing necessary trips out. All items will be quarantined upon return so it may take a day or two before they are removed from your account.
“We appreciate everyone’s support during this last month and are eager to get back to offering services,” said director Christine Golden. “Library services are going to look quite different for the time being. Public libraries have never been a great model of social distancing! This will be a gradual transition into the ‘new normal’ but we are excited to get the process started.”
The library does have an expansive digital collection of materials that can be accessed at any time on the library’s website. They have also renewed any library cards that had expired in the past year to allow immediate access to the library’s digital collection. If you do not have a library card and would like a digital access card, please contact the library at cgolden@jdcpl.us for more information.
