Letter: Why we need to vote!

Today’s national, state, and local issues will shape not only our lives but also the future of our children and grandchildren.

In our community, these issues include massive battery energy storage systems (BESS) added to solar farms, patchwork solar developments that consume prime farmland without accountability to neighbors, the potential of a data center, the proposed Mid-States Corridor and its effect on property rights, and property taxes that influence local government budgets and essential services.

These concerns are not partisan. Whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or Independent, research each candidate’s positions and vote for the person whose priorities best reflect your values and your family’s needs.

Indiana—and our local communities—continue to experience low voter turnout. It is time to reverse that trend.

Before going to the polls, learn about each candidate rather than voting a straight ticket without knowing the candidate’s qualifications or positions. If a candidate is an incumbent seeking reelection, review that person’s voting record on the issues that matter to you.

Elected officials work for the people: we hire them, and we can replace them. Educate yourself about the candidates, confirm that you are registered, and make a plan to vote.

If you are not yet registered, you can still register through October 5th. Early voting begins October 6th, giving you the opportunity to choose a convenient day and time. Election Day is November 3rd.

However you choose to participate, the important thing is to vote.
