Letter: What are the county commissioners doing to protect voters?

Many Dubois County residents have raised concerns about the rapid expansion of large-scale solar projects, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), data centers, AI-related developments, and other industrial energy projects proposed for our area.

Yet despite ongoing questions about public safety, property rights, farmland preservation, infrastructure impacts, emergency response capabilities, and long-term community consequences, there appears to be little effort to slow down, reassess, or thoroughly examine these projects on behalf of the residents who will be directly affected.

County officials are elected to represent the interests of their constituents first and foremost. Residents deserve to know that their concerns are being heard, their questions are being answered, and that decisions are being made with the long-term interests of our communities in mind—not simply the interests of large corporations and outside developers.

This is not about being for or against any one project. It is about transparency, accountability, and ensuring that local government performs the due diligence necessary to protect the people, property, and future of Dubois County.

Our communities deserve answers. Our residents deserve a voice. And our elected officials should be willing to put the interests of Dubois County first.

If elected officials are unwilling to prioritize the citizens they were chosen to represent, then the community has every right to expect leadership that will. Public office is a position of trust, and residents deserve representatives who are committed to putting Dubois County first.
