Letter: Vote for Biblical values

Dear Dubois County,

I am a millennial who just turned 30 this year. My wife and I have four beautiful children, and we make our home in the lovely little town of Ferdinand, where we just relocated to after two years of living on the north side of Jasper.

I am very burdened for the current condition of our country. There is much at stake in this upcoming election. Thankfully, I am glad that no matter the outcome, God is still in control.

As I read my Bible, one of the things I notice all throughout the book of Acts is that the Apostle Paul was not afraid to exercise his rights as a Roman citizen. He knew the law, and was not afraid to call out authorities when they were in the wrong, such as in Acts 16:37.

I think we should also exercise the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, and those freedoms include the right to vote and the right to speak our mind.

I believe every legal American citizen ought to vote. I also don’t believe in voting ‘straight party’. I think the right way is to look at people’s track record, decide what you believe, and vote for the person you think lines up closest with what you believe is right.

I believe in freedom of religion and that includes not censoring pastors and churches for saying what the Bible clearly says. I believe that life begins at conception and that a baby is just as much a person as anyone else, no matter what side of the mother’s womb they are on. I believe in the God-given right to raise my children and teach them what is true. I believe that there are two genders and strongly oppose the unscientific idea that a man can have a menstrual cycle or carry a baby or that a young child should have gender-altering surgery that could ruin their physical and mental well-being.

Because of these beliefs, I know who I am voting for. PLEASE, I urge you to vote for what you believe. This isn’t American Idol where you vote for someone based off whether you like their look, tone of voice, or even personality.

Go to your church and ask your pastor how to vote Biblical values. If he won’t tell you, he is a coward, and you should probably find a new place of worship. Stand for truth friends!

Unapologetically a Christian,

Pastor James Young
Living Hope Baptist Church of Jasper
