Would you risk living in the guinea pig neighborhood?

The 100-page lease agreement was finally released Tuesday at 2pm. Check it out! The city decided one week is adequate time for us to prepare for the public forum 7/26, despite fulltime jobs and obligations. I was hoping to attend the 4-H beef show. It speaks volumes about how little respect has been shown for the opposing citizens both publicly and regarding their personal time. The city’s agenda takes precedence, even though there is ?no deadline? Think again and watch for when the vote takes place.

Talking with Mayor Schmitt last night (with witnesses), I asked why the city ignores that at their “ideal” Burlington VT plant, manager John Irving stated the PRIMARY lesson learned was not to site a biomass plant near a residential neighborhood. Mayor Schmitt responded that our plant was not in a residential area but zoned industrial all along. Doesn’t it matter that residential zones (NEIGHBORHOODS) are very nearby? The fact residents have wiped coal dust off their cars and homes for years seems inconsequential; now they can be in immediate proximity to more particulates and trucks. Adding the Riverwalk means more exposed people. Pollutants will stagnate on days with no wind.

The city uses pollutant averages to “prove” that air quality won’t be affected, but countless studies reveal that spikes of invisible ultrafine particulates can trigger heart attacks, lung problems, and preterm birth.

Recommended as “impartial” by a friend of the USB chairman, Dr. Shaddix’s CV (Jasper city website) doesn’t disclose that Sandia National Laboratories, while government owned, is privately run by Sandia Corporation, which is wholly owned by Lockheed Martin. A collaborative agreement since 2007 between Sandia and Monsanto (part owner of Mendel Biotechnology/member Catasein’s team) directly benefits the Combustion Research Facility where Shaddix works. Who says so? The Sandia National Laboratory and Monsanto websites. This conflict of interest questions both the validity of Shaddix’s report and the city’s definition of “impartiality.”

Attend the forum 7/26 @ 7PM Jasper Arts Center. Ask a question; hear both sides personally. Contact your councilman if you can’t come.
