Letter to the Editor: Thanks for a great Strassenfest!

I am regularly asked where I am from and what the people are like that live in my hometown.

I find myself proudly saying that I represent one of the most dynamic, innovative and forward-thinking “small towns” in Indiana. One that stands for and advances nearly every cause that is important to us as a society.

I’m hugely proud of my Midwestern roots. I tell people that my hometown serves talent, ideas and opportunities in abundance all over the globe.

Jasper has pushed its local talent to excel while supporting its youth and encouraging them along the way.

The greatest example of how my hometown portrays itself to outsiders, the Strassenfest, draws those outsiders back year after year.

Last weekend the 37th annual Strassenfest was held in downtown Jasper. Kudos to the Jasper Strassenfest committee on all the partnerships with businesses and not-for-profits!

Growing up in Indiana, I learned that everything truly begins and ends with people. The compassion, trust and respect for others that define this part of the world have given me a tremendous professional foundation.

You never really leave a place you love, you take part of it with you and leave part of yourself behind.

Growing up there were the long summer days that started and ended with playing outside; when all you worried about was who you were going to hang out with and what fun thing you were going to do that day. And, one thing that always made an exciting end to summer in Jasper was the Strassenfest.

I always have said it’s impossible to not smile at the Strassfenfest. From all the dedicated city and county departments, Strassenfest committee members, and countless volunteers that are always in some way or another connected with the fest, great job!
