Letter to the Editor: Sacrificing freedom for prosperity is a no-win proposition
Recently the State of Indiana passed into law The Religious Freedom Act.
Both supporters and opponents of the bill said it would allow a Christian baker, for example, to refuse to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding, if providing service to such an event violated the baker’s religious convictions. Religious freedom hads been upheld and also freedom in general.
However, after passing this law, Indiana was branded a bigoted state. Corporations, organizations, even the NCAA and the NFL, here and in other states, voiced their bigoted, anti-freedom views against The Religious Freedom Act.
They warned that they would take their business to other states if the bill was not overturned.
Well, a backbone Governor Pence and the Indiana Legislature do not have; they overturned the bill.
The politicians who overturned this bill made a big mistake when they traded freedom for prosperity. A man that trades freedom for prosperity will have neither and deserves neither in the end.
The corporations, businesses and sports leagues dictated to the state lawmakers how to vote, and they listened. They did not listen to the constituents of Indiana.
How sad is that? Our lawmakers sold us out!
I believe that there are people in the gay-lesbian community who still believe that forcing people to do things against their beliefs is wrong.
If one baker will not bake a cake for you, go to another baker. Whatever happened to the old saying “live and let live?” Apparently it took a left hand turn down a street marked one-way!
A lot of the people heading up the gay-lesbian movement could care less if a baker bakes a cake for a same-sex wedding. They are using most of the gay-lesbian movement like a pawn on a chess board to attack religious freedom and advance their communist, one-world form of government. A communist government cannot succeed unless religion is eliminated, controlled or suppressed. In a communist government, you must live by man’s law which usually evolves into a dictatorship and tyranny.
That is when you are told how to live, how to raise your children, where you can work, etc.
John Adams, second President of the United States, said, in America “you have rights antecedent to all earthly governments; rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the Universe.”
Be careful what you wish for, it might come back at you.
