Letter to the Editor: May 8 chance for true leadership

This May 8th, we have a chance to bring true responsible leadership choices to the ballot for November, but what does this truly mean for you and me? It means we have a government of responsible leaders that listens to the people yet also acts with the common sense we use in our daily lives. We want responsible leaders to spend only what they take in via tax revenue within a balanced budget. We expect our borders to be secure with a fair and enforced immigration system. We expect our tax code to be fair to everyone and for everyone, outside of the very poor, to take part. We require City/County/State/Federal laws to promote economic development based on a Capitalistic free market system. We demand individual liberty to be honored and defended.

Due to these reasons, I write today to urge you to vote for and support the following leaders on the Republican ballot…

US Senate: Richard Mourdock

US House of Representatives: Kristi Risk

Why these particular people? I believe both Kristi Risk and Richard Mourdock have the record to back up being the responsible leaders our country needs to stand up to the establishment in DC. They have a long personal and professional history of supporting these ideals in word and deed. They have been here either taking part of personal door to door campaigns, being in small group meetings to take questions, or have been invited speakers at many conservative rallies here in the 8th District over the last year. Both Sen. Lugar and Rep. Bucshon have done very little to stop the increase of the national debt level, while then caving in and voting for increased levels of spending. I can think of only one visit from either of them to Dubois County in the last two years. Their inaction towards us leads me to wonder how much they care about us, and last year my interaction with the public confirmed it to me.

While running for Jasper city council last year, I personally visited almost every residence in the fourth district and spoke with hundreds of families. The reoccurring theme was how every person feels the burden of increasing prices on everything they buy and the lack of economic growth throughout Dubois County. They feel that those in DC and many local officials don’t understand how this was affecting them personally as job choices are few, their kids are leaving the area after graduation, and the debt burden from DC will ruin their future liberties. They were fed up and are searching for a way to make a difference at the ballot box and they did that in 2010 and 2011. Still, everything done by the vast majority of our Federal level politicians is about how to get reelected, not how to fix the problems our Federal government has in budgeting, spending, and reducing our individual liberties. Our national debt is $15.6 Trillion, and that translates into an individual amount of federal debt of $50k per citizen or $138k per taxpayer. So here we are searching again for responsible leaders to represent us as well as Rep. Mark Messmer and Rep. Sue Ellspermann has done for us at the State House.

Since Dubois County’s first TEA Party rally in April of 2009, Dubois County has voted in change at the local and Federal level but more political turnover is needed to continue bringing change in Washington DC. The citizens of Dubois County now have another chance to remove politicians by voting them out and bringing new voices to November ballot on May 8th. Each vote does make a difference so please make that difference by voting for Kristi Risk and Richard Mourdock on the Republican ballot.

  1. That number of the amount of debt we owe, each one of us, is staggering. The next number, the amount owed by each TAXPAYER is even more so. At the rate the government continues to spend, at some point this country will implode and then where will we all be – both the taxpayers and the non-taxpayers? We have got to turn it around and the existing people in Washington, with but a few exceptions, are not interested. We have to show them we are and vote fiscally conservative candidates into office. Kristi Risk and Richard Mourdock fit the bill and both will have my vote.

  2. Mourdock and the other ‘fiscally conservative’s don’t care one bit about deficits or debt. THey care about cutting taxes on rich people. Just look at the Bush years!
