Letter: This is what voters wanted

I’ve been considering writing a letter to the editor since the 2024 election, and now that the current administration has brazenly defied the constitution by displaying inhumane policies that are disrupting daily life for many of our most vulnerable citizens in our country.

After using his gullible but violent MAGA followers to attempt to overturn the election in 2020, Donald Trump promised retribution. He is now getting revenge on those who did not support him. The major cuts to necessary programs that people depend on to survive are doing serious damage to Americans on a daily basis. Having worked at a major university that spearheaded the fight against Ebola and worked with researchers who are getting closer and closer to understanding and curing deadly diseases, I am appalled.

I am shocked but not surprised at our governor’s willingness to go along blindly with the Trump administration’s dismantling of DEI and dismantling assistance programs that people depend on. It seems that MAGA females don’t really care about the country, just blindly voting as their husbands tell them. For this reason, I plan to stop spending at any local businesses that are run by Governor Braun. He is a nepo baby who does not understand the perspective of anyone who has had to work for a living.

It seems the Constitution is seen as mere recommendations to the Trump/Musk administration. There is a slow dismantling of freedom of the press, free speech and downright humanity which will result in Americans losing their freedoms our forefathers fought for, and our military has defended. Additionally, he has bullied most Republican politicians into doing his will for fear of retribution. Our government was based on a system of checks and balances that kept each branch working while protecting the democracy that our forefathers created.

The America I grew up in was a democracy. Immigrants formed this country when they took it from the Native Americans. I urge MAGA voters to learn their world and United States history. The most obvious comparison is to when Hitler dismantled democracy in little over a month. This is what is happening, and people are just assuming it won’t get that bad. I disagree.

We cannot abandon the Ukraine people by surrendering control of their country to Russia. It is so obvious that Putin has some information that could ruin Trump, so Trump/Musk will do Putin’s bidding.

There is an unelected person who is running the country under Trump’s name, and he has played the president right into his hands. It is obvious to see that he is intent on world and space domination and will stop at nothing. If the consequences were not so dire it would be comical and satirical. I urge my fellow citizens to speak out verbally and to speak with spending habits, as it will affect them where it would hurt the most, in their wallets. I plan to boycott spending on February 28 and will do this repeatedly as necessary.

We must preserve our democracy!
