Letter: The propaganda behind the Mid-States Corridor

In today’s world we are bombarded with misinformation, propaganda, and outright lies. Whether it is about politics, climate change, renewable energy versus fossil fuels, or some other issue, the influx over the years with the number of media channels and social media outlets has created an environment where people are easily swayed because we don’t have time to research the facts or don’t want to. Unfortunately, it is no different with the Mid-States Corridor and the few business and political leaders who continue to make overarching statements on why we need the Mid-States Corridor but don’t want to acknowledge all the misinformation and assumptions in the final Tier 1 study.

Recently, a small group decided to produce and mail a postcard mailer to residents of Dubois County promoting the benefits of the Mid-States Corridor using icons with simple statements like a positive environmental impact, economic growth, growth in jobs, enhanced tourism, fast and direct connection and decrease traffic congestion.

Every one of these statements is misleading with absolutely no factual data in the study to support these statements. So, before you question the pros and cons of this proposed project, please educate yourself and read all the details in the hundreds of pages of the final environmental impact study, along with the thousands of comments submitted. You will be amazed at all the misinformation, assumptions, and projections made in their attempt to justify this proposed project. More information can be found on the Stop the Mid-States Corridor Project Facebook page.
