Letter: The Mid-State Corridor will impact all of Dubois County

How would the Mid-States Corridor affect you if you aren’t in its path? If you live in southern or eastern Dubois County and work in Jasper or Huntingburg, you could see it greatly affect your everyday commute to and from work.

The proponents of this project are pushing for a limited access four-lane highway similar to US 231 south of Dale. The keywords are limited access. You can expect about 5-6 places where you can access the highway in the county –- the current US 231 near the Dubois County Airport, Indiana 64/162 near the Bretsville junction, Indiana 164 east of the Dubois Road, Indiana 56 near Haysville, and possibly an additional exit on the north side of Jasper at a place convenient for the proponents of this project to get their trucks on the road.

Will you be able to travel the other county roads to reach Jasper? Roadbeds are much less expensive to build than overpasses. A few roads will remain intact, but most will dead-end at the corridor, possibly adding miles to your commute. Is saving five minutes on occasional trips to Indianapolis worth losing precious time every day with your family?

The purpose of this road is not to make life better for the people of Dubois and Martin County. It is designed to put more money in the pockets of the owners of trucking companies and to put your tax money in the pockets of consultants and road construction companies.

It’s time to stop this tremendous waste of taxpayer dollars on an unwanted and unneeded road. We can stop it if we all work together.

Contact your elected officials and urge them to stop this boondoggle now! Stop the Mid-States Corridor!
