Letter: Thank you fellow Hoosier neighbors

MayorOn Sunday, November 17th, Washington and Daviess County were hit with an F-2 tornado that at last count damaged or destroyed around 105 businesses and homes in the city plus another 40 or so west of city limits. My initial assessment on Sunday night and early Monday morning was that it would take many weeks to clean up the debris and people would be without power for at least a week.

Lo and behold, our neighbors came to our assistance.

Electric line crews from Huntingburg and Jasper showed up Monday morning to help our line crew, offering assistance and relief to our men who worked around the clock to get power restored.

The help your crews provided between Monday and Wednesday was instrumental in getting power restored to everyone in less than three days!

A great big thank you to Mayor Spinner and Mayor Seitz and your Electric Departments personnel.

Good neighbors are a wonderful blessing, and we here in Washington witnessed that first-hand this past week.

On top of that “official” response, individuals from your area personally volunteered in the clean-up effort and we are thankful to them, too. I hope your community never has to suffer the ravages of a storm like this but if you do, know that the City of Washington will be here willing to return the favor.

God bless you.

Joe Wellman, Mayor
City of Washington
