Letter: Primary not the end of fight against Mid-States Corridor
Now that the primaries are over, we must not give up the game in the locker room. We are still in control of our fate and the fate of the Mid-States Corridor. The Dubois Cabal can still be beaten.
Like the failed Link 101 Corridor project, the Mid-States Corridor is too costly. INDOT decided to cancel the Link 101 Corridor due to estimated increased costs. Has INDOT reevaluated the “new” costs for the Mid-States Corridor? $1.2 billion was the estimated cost a few years back; I wonder what it is today? If we just use the inflation numbers, the cost may have gone up by $120 million. This means the cost per mile of the Mid-States Corridor will be about $20 million per mile.
The cost to improve US 231 was estimated at $75 million, a few years back. Let’s say to do the improvements now, the new cost is $100 million, that means for the cost of 5 miles of the Mid-States Corridor, we can have the entire route of US 231 upgraded; and, maintained for years.
Remember, it is up to us to prevent the Mid-States Corridor. We need to say no to inquiries about our land and continue to show our opposition at any and all Mid-States Corridor meetings, no matter who calls them. Jack Butcher never gave up a game in the locker room, and neither should we.
