Letter: People are not ‘garbage’

I am writing this because I am deeply troubled by President Trump’s recent comments calling Somali people “garbage.”

Even when individuals commit fraud, it is wrong — and dangerous — to condemn an entire culture. Our democracy depends on respecting the dignity of every person and responding to wrongdoing through due process, not dehumanization.

I ask you, who read this, to speak out publicly for respectful language and equal human worth.  Your voice matters, whoever you are, politician or not. Hoosiers need to know that we, the people, are the force empowered to change what needs to be changed to keep our country one that is respected and trustworthy
