Letter: Monster Recycling coming to Ferdinand

Welcome to Monster Recycling of Indiana, your local one stop recycling center and a veteran owned and operated company. We recycle many different items and now we are making it easier for you to say yes and recycle more items yourself.

No more trying to load items in the trunk of your car or finding time to go to the recycling center when they are open. We are bringing recycling right to your front door at no cost to you. On Friday December 13, we will bring a blue recycle bin to each home here in Ferdinand. Many of you have seen the green recycling bins Jasper has; these will be similar. All you need to do is put your recyclables in your bin and have the bin sitting out by the curb in front of your home every Monday morning for pick-up.

Now let’s go over what you can put in your bin:

  • Rinsed out glass bottles or jars (any color)
  • Rinsed out plastic bottles and jugs (any color)
  • Cardboard
  • Rinsed out metal food cans (soup, vegetables, etc.)
  • Empty soda cans
  • Packing peanuts tied shut in a plastic bag
  • Plastic grocery bags (multiples tied shut in one bag to prevent blow away)
  • Newspapers
  • Paper grocery bags
  • Rinsed out Styrofoam cups
  • Rinsed out plastic butter or other food containers
  • Small electronic items (old computers, small TVs, cell phones, etc.)
  • Batteries ( car, lawn mower and household)

Now what not to put in your bins:

  • No food items or containers with leftover food in them.
  • No empty motor oil containers.
  • No oil filters.
  • No trash.
  • Do not break glass in your container.

Those who repetitively break the rules will have their bins removed and no more collections will be accepted from your residence.

This recycling program can only succeed if we all work together.

Homeowners wanting a second recycling bin can contact Bev Schulthise at Town Hall and purchase one for $15.

Please have your bins next to the curb no later than 9 a.m. each Monday.

Once a month we will offer a free large item pick-up. This will take place on a day other than your regular recycling day and will be announced the week prior. On this day households that have larger items such as TVs, lawn mowers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, old farm items, fencing, old cars, old AC units, etc. These items should simply be set out just as you would your bin on a regular day and we will pick them up at no charge.

In addition, once a month we will hold a tire recycling day. Old tires contribute greatly to the mosquito population in our area. There will be a charge per tire based on tire size. More information about dates, times and cost will be posted in the near future.

For those wishing to drop items off at our facility, we are a 100% inside facility, and we are located in Jasper.
