Letter: Mid-States Corridor an investment in the future

We know the Mid-States Corridor is very controversial, and for those whose land it affects, it is very personal; we do understand.

I have personally witnessed this same controversy on two previous roads. The first was in the early 70s, US-231 between Huntingburg and Jasper. It was personal for us because it cut our property between Jasper Engines and Jasper Electric Motors in half.

The next was I-64. I was at the grand opening in 1977. Even after it was opened, people were complaining that it was not being used. Look at it today. Both roads were put in place by forward thinkers some 45-plus years ago.

\We thank those women and men who had the vision to look to the future and plan for the future, even when there were nay-sayers; they had the vision for the future. Just look at how those roads have improved the safety in our community and have helped grow our community.

Yes, I have listened to Wave Goodbye to Jasper Lights… not true… quite the contrary, we will see growth, improved safety and even greater air quality. If people knew of the armaments that travel through Jasper many times daily, they would be terrified. I have also read comments from others that simply aren’t true.

The Mid-States Corridor is a road for the future that is needed today. I was taught at an early age “either you’re gowing, or you are dying.” We want our community to continue to grow and provide opportunities for our kids, grandkids, and generations to come

Thanks to leaders of yesteryear to plan for the future
