Letter: It’s time to stop the smears, on both sides
A recent letter to the editor asked that we “Don’t fall for the smears leveled at Democrats”, well let’s not fall for the smears leveled at Republicans either. The political animosity is very one sided. When the hatred for one person becomes the rallying cry for an entire group, we have a problem. Civil discourse is no longer feasible. This hatred of one man has led many Democrats to denigrate fully half of the nation’s population. Calling any group Nazis or comparing anyone to Adolf Hitler or wanting to defund law enforcement is not what America is about.
History tells us that until the mid-1930s Indiana was a Republican state, as was most of the country. The Depression was a turning point and until the mid-1970s Indiana was a Democrat state. The over zealousness of the liberals, using other people’s money (OPM), caused not only Indiana but America, in general, to return to its conservative roots. Why was this? Well, here in rural Southern Indiana, it was partially due to the fact that farmers are conservative by nature and believe in private property rights.
Wealth, commerce, private property, liberty and freedom are not Party exclusive; but, are the glue that makes America and our values unique in the world. “Only in America, land of opportunity…” as the old song goes, is where ” A kid without a cent, [can] Get a break and maybe grow up to be president”. Yes, only in America can someone like Barak Obama who says he wants “:…to fundamentally change America…” can be elected president…not once but twice.
When a Democrat publicly states he is a Democrat Socialist, he is in effect saying that he does not like America and disagrees with her values. It’s not Republicans calling Democrats Communists it’s the Democrats themselves. It wasn’t the Republicans who banned religion in our public schools, it was the Democrats. It wasn’t the Republicans who call law enforcement officers terrorists, it’s the Democrats. Had it not been for the Republicans we would never have passed the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, we would not have passed the Civil Rights Acts of 1866, 1870, 1871, 1875, 1957, 1960, 1964 and 1968. Nor would the Voting Rights Acts of 1870, 1965, 1970, 1975 1982 and 2006 have been passed. And, it wasn’t the Republicans who instituted the Jim Crowe laws, created the Klan and the John Birch Society, opposed segregation, assassinated Medgar Evans outside his home or brutally attacked the Freedom Riders, where some came very close to being killed. No, these acts of terrorism were all perpetrated by those calling themselves Democrats.
The evils and greed of Capitalism? What a bunch of nonsense. Neither Socialism nor Communism has ever been successful and neither ever allowed anyone to improve their lot in life. Both philosophies abhor private property and free enterprise. They foist the illusion of equity onto its populace; but, in reality what the people are given is a lower standard of living. Look at what all the Democratic Socialist, Socialist or Communist nations offer: free health care, free child, guaranteed vacation, free college and guaranteed social welfare. What is not said is that no one can own a house because private property ownership is forbidden. The wait time to see a doctor is months, the free education is at poor quality schools, the shelves in the stores are bare and one will pay over 50% of one’s meager pay in taxes. Capitalism, and only Capitalism, has allowed millions, perhaps billions, of people to raise themselves out of poverty. No other political philosophy can say this.
We built a wall to stop unlawful entry into our country where most other nations built walls to keep their people in. If America is such a horrible place, why is it the place the rest of the world most wants to come to? Why do those who live in “Socialist Paradises” chose to come here? Why would they give up free health care, free child care and guaranteed vacation if their societies were so great? Why? The simple answer is because we offer freedom and the opportunity to improve one’s lot in life and they don’t.
Why do we have sanctuary cities? Or, why do we allow some cities to ignore our Constitution? Why do we not enforce all laws for all people? Just because one doesn’t agree with the President does not give one the right to pick and chose what laws to obey. Yet, it’s the Democrats that do all of this and more…all in the name of freedom.
Our founding fathers were correct in warning about the evils of political parties. Our nation was founded to preserve private property, to allow its citizens to petition the government for redress of wrongs, to complain about the government and to be free from subjugation by the government. Our nation and it’s political founding was 50 years before Mark and Engels thought up Communism. It’s time we woke up. It’s time to stop the smears, on both sides.
