Letter: It wasn’t the Republican Party

This letter is in response to a letter to the editor from Julie Melchior, in which she claims some Republicans are hoping to demonize Democrats as Communists, atheists, and terrorists. She then proceeds to provide a “history” in support of her statement. I am responding to a couple of her points.

Regarding the “demonization”, which members of a political party are calling MAGA Republicans Nazis and fascists? Which party is not standing up to “peaceful protests” being done by Antifa? Which party openly supports undocumented (illegal) immigrants? I do not feel like I support Nazis or fascists. I am against “peaceful protests” (per a CNN reporter who called them mostly peaceful protests while the buildings were burning over his shoulder). I do support immigration when done through legal means, not through mass migration by the millions in violation of our laws.

Ms. Melchior also stated, “Nor are Democrats terrorists, although they have been branded as such for exercising the right of free speech to protest the cruelty of immigrant detentions and for trying to assist the victims of abusive law enforcement. Statistics show that far-right groups are responsible for the vast majority of political violence in America.”

Please show the source for your statistics regarding far-right groups being responsible for the vast majority of political violence in America. Was it far-right groups bombing churches and pro-life pregnancy centers after Roe V Wade was overturned? Was it a far-right group that assassinated Charlie Kirk?

Additionally, which political party enshrined the “right” to end the life of a child in the womb into their national party platform? Hint: it wasn’t the Republican Party.
