Letter: Fools with political power are dangerous
I want to make a short statement that you can agree with or disagree with as you wish, and another statement that is unfinished. I ask readers to furnish the ending.
My statement: When fools obtain political power, they become dangerous to everyone.
The statement for readers to finish: A person who gives his or her political power away to fools is ____________. Fill in the blank however you want. Come back to this statement from time to time between now and the November election. Your ending to the statement may change.
If, by voting, you gave away your political power to certain individuals in the last election, how are their decisions and actions affecting your life? If you did not vote, you gave away your political power to the winners in those contests by not participating. Are you happy with what the winners of all of those races are doing?
Remember Smoky the Bear’s slogan when you prepare to vote or not vote in the next election. “Only YOU can prevent forest fires”.
