Letter: Don’t sell to Mid-States Corridor

A total eclipse of the sun! What a spectacle! What a wondrous sight to behold! We here in Martin County had some of the best seats in the world to experience this event. The day was perfect.

We had several members of the family and friends over, and we sat on our back porch and were in awe. Surrounded by spring freshness, the warm sun, the gentle breeze and the quiet of the farms around us. The next time something like this happens is in 2045, and those sitting on our back porch could be assailed by traffic noise, exhaust, and dust. The Mid-States Corridor’s path is right next to our place. The farm on the other side of the fence could gone, replaced by an unneeded and unwanted multi-lane highway. The experience will not be the same.

It will be through gatherings like this that we can show our solidarity against the Corridor. This isn’t the only way to show your opposition. Any of us who receive letters, phone calls or even visits to our homes from people wanting to “inquire” about our land in the proposed path of the Corridor just need to politely say no, hang up the phone and throw the letters in the trash. We need 50% to stand firm and say no, and we will stop the Corridor.

Don’t forget, David was able to defeat Goliath, and we can fight city hall and win.
