Letter: Attend the next Jasper Common Council meeting on Wednesday

If you would like to know if the City of Jasper will be spending more taxpayer dollars towards funding a future Tier II study for the Mid-States Corridor, attend the city of Jasper council meeting this Wednesday 5/18/22 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall where I will be asking this question.

You also have the option to Zoom into the meeting on this website (see password): https://www.jasperindiana.gov/egov/apps/events/calendar.egov?view=detail;id=3226

For historical information, the city of Jasper entered into an agreement under Ordinance Number 2017-16 with the Mid-States Corridor Regional Development Authority (RDA) made up of an appointed board on August 23, 2017.  They passed resolution number 2018-8 on September 19, 2018, to agree to pay $1.4 million of city taxpayers’ dollars to the RDA towards funding the Tier I Draft Environmental Impact Study DEIS published in April 2022.

The City of Huntingburg and Dubois County also approved the use of taxpayer funds for the study.

The other half of the funding came from private businesses and donors most of which chose to remain anonymous.

Public money spent on the Tier I study was $3.5 million and private money was approximately $3.5 million.

Don’t forget to submit your written comments to info@midstatescorridor.com no later than 6/14/22!

I know it’s not a lot of notice for the meeting, but if you can make it hope to see you there!

Marisa Durcholz, Jasper
