LeRoy J. Schnarr, 86, of Jasper, Indiana passed away at 8:48 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.
LeRoy was born on April 12, 1928 in Boone Township, Dubois County, Indiana to Orville and Dora (Hoffman) Schnarr. He married Iona E. Neukam on April 20, 1950 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2014.
LeRoy was a lifetime farmer in the Boone Township area. He also worked part time for Uebelhor and Son’s Automobile Dealership and Kimball International. He also managed and was part owner of Westwood Apartments.
He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War.
He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township, where he served on the church council, and sang in the choir.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #673, the American Legion Post #147, and the Ireland Sportsman’s Club. He also served as the Democratic Precinct Committeeman, was a past member of Dubois County Civil Defense, and was a past board member of Memorial Hospital.
He enjoyed singing, collecting coins and stamps, working on puzzles, playing cards, and square dancing. He also enjoyed watching sports.
He is survived by one daughter-in-law, Joann Schnarr of Boone Township; two grandsons, Doug Schnarr and his wife Kiley of Clayton, Ind. and Dr. Chad Schnarr and his wife Janet of Hillsboro, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death beside his wife is one son, Michael D. Schnarr, one brother, James E. Schnarr, and one sister Elizabeth “Betty” Fuhrman.
Funeral services for LeRoy J. Schnarr will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boone Township, IN, with burial to follow in the St. John’s Church Cemetery. Pastor Catherine Burnette will officiate. The VFW #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.
Friends may call from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2014, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.
