Leroy A. Sumner, 62, Petersburg

Leroy A. Sumner, 62, of Petersburg, passed away July 22, 2023, in Jasper.

He was born March 24, 1961, to Frederick and Mildred (Wiscaver) Sumner in Jasper.

Leroy worked for Kimball in Jasper, McDonald’s in Petersburg, and also as a greeter at the Jasper Walmart. He was a proud member of the Mt. Olive General Baptist Church in Cato, Ind.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Sherri Sumner; daughter, Jamie (Butch) Sumner; sons, Chris Sumner, Scott Sumner, Fred (Kelsie) Sumner, and Jerry Jones; grandchildren, Chase Kelley, Reece Kelley, Brayden Miller, and Grayson Jones; brothers, Paul Wiscaver and Daniel Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Tina Sumner.

Services for Leroy will take place at 1 p.m. EST on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Mt. Olive General Baptist Church in Cato, Ind., with visitation from 10 a.m. EST until service time.

Pastor Alex Benefield will be officiating.

The family requests that those who attend please wear a Christian t-shirt or your favorite t-shirt with a funny saying, just like Leroy liked to wear.
