Leona S. Wellmeyer, 85

Leona S. Wellmeyer, 85, of Huntingburg, passed away at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015, at The Waters of Huntingburg nursing center in Huntingburg.

She was born October 13, 1929 in Holland, Indiana, to Edward and Mary (Harmeyer) Niehaus. She graduated from Holland High School in 1947 and married Waldo Wellmeyer in 1948.

Leona was a farm wife and helped run the family dairy farm in Huntingburg. She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Wellmeyer, who passed away January 5, 1996; one sister, Meta Katter; and two brothers, Raymond Niehaus and Eldo Niehaus.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy (Bruce) Epmeier of Newburgh and Nancy Wellmeyer of Indianapolis; two sons, Gary Wellmeyer and Randy Wellmeyer, both of Huntingburg; one sister, Goldie Niehaus of Carmichael, Cali.; two grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Epmeier of Newburgh and Carrie (Ryan Byrnes) Epmeier of Chicago; two great-grandsons, Isaac and Evan Epmeier of Newburgh; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Leona Wellmeyer will be held at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg. Pastor David Darling will officiate at the services.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and also from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. James Lutheran Church or to Deaconess V.N.A. Hospice.
