Leona M. Hief, 78, Jasper

Leona M. Hief, 78, of Jasper, passed away at 4:44 p.m. CST on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Evansville.

Leona was born in Schnellville, Indiana on March 26, 1939 to Otto and Margaret (Schnell) Vogler. She married Gerald Hief on June 19, 1965 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville.

Leona retired from Wooden Keg Liquors after many years of service. She was a very active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was a member of their Blessed Virgin Sodality and served on their Bereavement Committee. She also volunteered for Tri-Cap, for Brookside Village, and helped with blood drives and the community meals program.

She was a member of the Women’s Moose Lodge #1175, the American Legion Auxiliary Post #147, and the Grandmothers Club.

She enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Hief of Jasper; one daughter Angie Rahman (David) of Newburgh; two sons, Curt Hief and Roger Hief, both of Jasper; six grandchildren, Lydia, Cole, and Sydney Rahman, and Noah, Mariah, and Collin Hief; one sister, Bernice Reuber (Thomas) of Dubois, IN.

Preceding her in death was one sister, Rosetta Kern.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Leona M. Hief will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana with entombment to follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper, Indiana.

A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Funeral Home in Jasper, Indiana, and from 9:00 a.m.until the 10:00 a.m service time at church on Tuesday. The Holy Family Blessed Virgin Sodality will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The Women of the Jasper Moose Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 6:00 p.m.
