Leon J Olinger, 86, of Ferdinand, passed away with family surrounding him on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Leon was born on January 27, 1940, in Ferdinand to Leo and Ida (Hohl) Olinger.

Leon married Mary Ann Dilger-Olinger on February 4, 1961. She preceded him in death on May 23, 2006.

Leon married Sandra Purtzer Olinger on September 2, 2007.

Leon is survived by his wife, Sandra; one daughter, Lydia (Dean) Blessinger of Ferdinand; two sons, Michael (Terri) Olinger of Ellston, Iowa and Thomas (Christine) Olinger of Danville, Calif.; one sister, Mary Jane Dilger of Mariah Hill. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Tyler Blessinger, Morgan (Jeff) Blessinger-Seng, Kylie (Beau) Anderson, Alex (Lauren) Olinger, Andrew Olinger, Christopher (Elizabeth) Olinger, Mitchell (Amy) Olinger, and Mary Grace Olinger; and seven great-grandchildren, Kasady Anderson, Bailey Anderson, Ace Anderson, Archie Anderson, Sawyer Seng, Miller Seng, Beau Olinger, and one great-granddaughter on the way.

Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Dilger-Olinger; his parents; brothers and a sister, Clare Mae Fest, Cyril Olinger, Irenus Olinger, and Leander Olinger; and his great-granddaughter, Lydia Kay Seng.

Leon enjoyed being an educator. He was an insurance agent for 51 years. He was a member of Christ the King Parish. Leon loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

Services for Leon will be held at a later date.
