Leo H. Oeding, 87

Leo H. Oeding, 87 of Ferdinand died Wednesday March 14th at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. He was born July 12, 1925 at St. Henry to Paul and Anna (Moeller) Oeding. Leo married Dorothy A. Hassfurther in St. Ferdinand Church on August 19, 1947. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1995.

Leo worked at Jasper Chair for 24 years and tended turkeys at Bartley Farms. He eventually retired from Mobel in Ferdinand. He was a member of St. Ferdinand Church, Ferdinand Senior Citizens and the St. Anthony Conservation Club. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, butchering, turtle soup making and gardening. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Leo is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George (Barbara) Hudson of Oakland City, IN., and Mrs. Mike (Jane) Van Winkle of Ferdinand; Four sons, Kenneth Oeding and his wife Phyllis of Ferdinand, Bob “Ponce” Oeding and his wife Carolyn of Ferdinand, Terry Oeding and his wife Sheila of Ferdinand and Dan Oeding and his wife Doris of St. Anthony; two sisters Marie Gessner of Ferdinand and Helen Hopf of Huntingburg; one brother, Edgar Oeding of Jasper; Twelve grandchildren; 2 Step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3Step-greatgrandchildren; 1 great great grandchild.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, brothers, Gregory, Ben, Roman, Ralph and Linus Oeding; sisters, Cecelia and Rose Kerstiens and by one grandchild.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8:00 PM EST at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9-10:00 AM EST at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.
