Leo E. “Pud” Knust, age 94, of Schnellville, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at home.

Pud was born in Schnellville, IN on October 13, 1919, to Joseph and Anna (Fritz) Knust. He married his wife of 67 years, Alvina Schnell, on May 7, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, IN.

Pud was a farmer and retired from the Jasper Cabinet Company after 22 years of service.

He was a WWII Veteran who served with the Army Air Corps.

He served as the Jefferson Township Trustee for four terms and served on the township advisory board for 16 years. He also served on the Schnellville Development Club.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a recipient of the Simon Brute Award. He was a member of the American Legion Post #493, VFW Post #673, Schnellville Conservation Club, Jasper Knights of Columbus, and the St. Vincent De Paul Society.

He enjoyed playing cards, reading, working on the farm, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived his wife, Alvina Knust, of Schnellville, IN; five daughters, Susie Larson and her husband Jack, of Crawfordsville, IN, Mary Winters and her husband Bill, of Schnellville, IN, Martha McCaffry and her husband Randy, of Boonville, IN, Monica Rose Endres and her husband Jeff, of Indianapolis, IN, and Annette Schuetter and her husband Dave, of Schnellville, IN; two sons, Ed Knust and his wife Kathy, of Schnellville, IN, and John “Pudder” Knust, of Schnellville, IN; one sister, Josephine Kaelin, of Crestwood, KY; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death is one grandchild – Audrey Knust, three sisters – Verona Prechtel, Clara Englert, and Anna Mae Reh, three brothers – Albert, Edwin, and Theodore Knust, two half-sisters – Theresa Bockelman and Margaret Schuch, and three half-brothers – Michael, Louis, and Oscar Knust.

Funeral services for Leo E. Knust will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday (October 28, 2013) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, IN, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The St. Anthony American Legion Post #493 and the Jasper VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

Friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, and 1 hour before services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The rosary will be prayed at 1:45 p.m.
