Lena Mae Hughes, 70, French Lick

Lena Mae Hughes, 70, of French Lick, went to Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 13, 2024, at her residence. 

She was born on February 13,, 1954 in Huntingburg, Indiana to Volley and Hilda (Gramelspacher) Feltner.

Lena married the love of her life, Wayne Hughes, on April 27, 1976, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 2021.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and son, Jason Hughes, on October 16, 2020.

Lena graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1972 and was a founding member of CrossPoint Fellowship Church in Jasper. She was a beautician and retired from Hughes Paving Co., Inc. and enjoyed her retirement serving her church and Kids of the Kingdom.

She helped lead many children to the Lord and had a huge impact on many people’s lives. She was strong in her Christian faith and was the first to tell someone about their need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Lena loved to cook, arts and crafts, serving others, fishing, vacations to Florida, and watching her grandkids play their sports.

She is survived by her son, Michael Hughes (Rena) of French Lick; daughter, Angie Matthews (Jason) of Birdseye; brother, Larry Feltner (Kathy) of St. Anthony; sister, Elaine Hemmer of Huntingburg; grandchildren, Caleb, Maddy, Jacob and Luke Hughes and Jenna Matthews; many nieces and nephews.

A funeral ceremony will be conducted by Pastor David King at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024, at CrossPoint Fellowship Church, Jasper, Indiana with burial to follow in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, French Lick, Indiana.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at CrossPoint Fellowship Church.
