Lee E. Broeker, 90, of Huntingburg, passed away Thursday morning, September 24, 2015, at his home.

He was born December 4, 1924 in Holland to William and Selma (Schoppenhorst) Broeker. He married Emadean L. Schmeltekope on November 15, 1943 at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg.

Mr. Broeker worked as a shop foreman at Jasper Corporation, where he retired. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, V.F.W. Post #2366, Holland American Legion, and the Southern Indiana Leathernecks.

Lee served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II; and participated in battles at Guam, the Marianas Islands, and Iwo Jima.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emadean L. Broeker, who died December 31, 2007; one sister, Lucinda Broeker; and two brothers, Ralph Broeker and Charles Broeker.

He is survived by one daughter, Starr Lee Kieffner of Hayesville; one son, Raven Lee Broeker of Greensboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Amanda Kluemper of Jasper, Levi Broeker of N.C. and Lindsay Nuckles of N.C.; five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lee Broeker will be held at 10:00 a.m. EDT on Monday, September 28, 2015, at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg.  Reverend Mark West will officiate at the funeral.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #2366 Memorial Detail.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and also at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Monday morning. A vigil service, conducted by members of the Southern Indiana Leathernecks Detachment of the Marine Corps League will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
