Leadership Academy team seeking help to impact Haysville Park

A Dubois County Leadership Academy team is seeking community help to complete its capstone project for the 2024 class year.

The Dubois County Leadership Academy is a county-wide initiative sponsored by the Leadership Pillars. It is a 501(c)3 non-profit, standalone entity. Every year, teams collaborate to create a capstone project to help Dubois County residents.

The team, comprised of members Craig Jellison, Brandy Green, Amanda Johnson, Brent Seibert, and Shay Thomas, wants to support improvements and maintenance at Haysville Park.

In choosing the project, the group was seeking to make an impact that could be shared by everyone and was family friendly. “We found out about some needs of the park from a park board member and really liked them,” Jellison explained in an email. “Haysville being a small town makes it hard to get funding for any improvements. My group and I feel that Haysville is an underserved part of our community that deserves are help to make it even better.”

Some improvements that we are looking to make include new Polywood picnic tables, four new exterior entry doors, and a new garage door for equipment storage.

The park needs additional seating in the shelter house. This will provide a safe place for community members to relax and enjoy time with family and friends. The four exterior entry doors are in poor condition and need to be replaced due to age. These doors are located in the main park building, which houses restrooms and park maintenance equipment. The addition of these new doors will provide an added layer of security to the property. Finally, the 7’x 8’ overhead door needs to be replaced due to its age.

The benefits of this project would help make the park more up to date and a safer place for children and adults to enjoy the park and all its amenities. Haysville, being a small town, relies on public donations and community-organized events so support updates and improvements to town amenities.

The team wants to raise $16,000 to cover the cost of the park improvements. If you are willing to make a donation, please make checks written to “Dubois County Leadership Academy” with “Haysville Park” in the memo.  Checks may be mailed to Ferdinand Town Hall, 2065 Main Street, Ferdinand, Ind., 47532-0007, or call a member, listed below, to arrange pick-up.
