Lawrence “Larry” E. Mehringer, 76, Jasper
Lawrence “Larry” E. Mehringer, 76, passed away at home surrounded by family at 5:45 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Larry was born in Ireland, Ind., on September 14, 1949, to Marvin and Eugenia (Sermersheim) Mehringer.
He married Kathy Hess on August 5, 1972, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt, Indiana.
He graduated from Ireland High School in 1967.
He was a United States veteran who served in the Army Reserves.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, where he was on the bereavement committee. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #673, American Legion Post #147, Jasper K of C, and the Jasper Outdoor Recreation, and was a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul food bank.
Larry enjoyed watching golf, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and IU Basketball. He liked to fish and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy Mehringer of Jasper; one son, Brian (Angie) Mehringer of Huntingburg; one daughter, Shelly (John) West of Yorktown; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Samuel Mehringer and Jackson, Lane, and Caden West; eight siblings, Patty Beck of Ireland, Ind. Donna Slade of Georgia, Connie (Joe) Gutzweiler of Newburgh, Steve (Paula) Mehringer of Georgia, Duane Mehringer of Jasper, Karen (Tom) Neuhoff of St. Anthony, Mark Mehringer of Jasper, and Debbie Mehringer of Jasper; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are one grandson, Tristan Mehringer; one brother, Kurt Mehringer; and two brothers-in-law, Denny Beck and Dean Slade.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence “Larry” E. Mehringer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Jasper. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military graveside rites.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Mass time at the church on Saturday.
