Lawrence E. “Larry” Stenftenagel, 92, of Ireland, passed away at 12:35 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

Larry was born in Huntingburg, Indiana, on September 23, 1924, to Edward Joseph and Gertrude (Neuhoff) Stenftenagel. He married Bernita Hulsman on May 18, 1948, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, Indiana. She preceded him in death on January 2, 2010.

He was a United States Army Veteran, and he was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. He worked as an electrician for Hulsman Electric for 30 years, and he was then self-employed. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland, American Legion Post #147, V.F.W. Post #673, and the Ireland Sportsman Club, in which he was one of the original founders.

Surviving are two daughters, Sarah Braunecker and her husband Mark of Ireland and Carol Wehr and her husband Roger of Velpen; two sons, Brett Stenftenagel and his wife Candice and Scott Stenftenagel and his wife, Karen, both of Ireland; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald “Dutch” Stenftenagel.

Preceding him in death besides his wife are two sisters, JoAnne Prechtel and one, who died and infancy and one brother, Jerome “Dimp” Stenftenagel

A Mass of Christian Burial for Lawrence E. “Larry” Stenftenagel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military grave site rites.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time at the church on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or a favorite charity.
