Lawrence A. Streicher, 95, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:27 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Lawrence was born in Jasper, Indiana, on January 20, 1920, to George and Catherine (Prechtel) Streicher. He married Martina Friedman on August 18, 1948 in St. Raphael’s Catholic Church Dubois, Indiana.

Lawrence was a staff sergeant in the 145th Regiment of the 37th Division of the Army serving in World War II from January 20, 1942 to October 15, 1945. He served in the South Pacific, New Zealand, Fiji in the Solomon Islands, Guadalcanal, New Georgia, and the Bougainville Islands. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.

He retired from Jasper Desk, where he had worked as a cabinet maker for 45 years.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, American Legion Post #147, the Holy Name Society of Holy Family Catholic Church, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Lawrence was a hard working man of honor, integrity, and honesty. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and carpentry.

He is survived by his wife, Martina Streicher of Jasper; five daughters, Karen Toby of Jasper, Marlene Hastreiter and her husband Greg of Ft. Wayne, Janet Streiche of Jasper, Mary Reisz and her husband Kevin of Jasper and Joan Jacob and her husband Dean of Jasper; one son, Gary Streicher and his wife Elaine of Jasper; 12 grandchildren
12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are five sisters, Esther Wahl, Marie Burger, Rosella “Sally” Kluesner, Viola and Beatrice “Betsy” Streicher, and one brother, Ralph Streicher.

Funeral Services for Lawrence A. Streicher will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Enlow Cemetery in Jasper. American Legion Post #147 will conduct military gravesite rights.

Friends may call from 8:30-11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.
