Larry R. Schaefer, 68, of Ferdinand, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015, at Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center, Jasper.

Larry was born in St. Meinrad to Othmar & Perline (Ernst) Schaefer. His first wife Diana (Scott) Peters died May 31, 2005. He married Cindy Gehlhausen–Schipp on April 12, 2008.

Larry retired in 2012 from Kimball International after 48 years and worked part-time at Holiday World after retirement. He enjoyed traveling, playing euchre and cinch, spending time with family and friends, and celebrating special times with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order Of Eagles, Jasper Moose Lodge, Jasper Recreation Club, and the Jasper Gun Club. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of Ferdinand American Legion Post 12.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth, Otsie, Jr., and infant David Schaefer, sisters, Debra, Chrissy Schaefer.

Surviving are his wife Cindy Schipp-Schaefer; one daughter, Kelli Lehmkuhler and husband John of St. Anthony; one son, Curt Schaefer and wife Jamie of Jasper; four stepsons, Chris Peters and wife Thess of Jasper, Tom Peters and wife Laura of Ireland, Aaron Schipp and wife Amanda of Greenwood and Adam Schipp and wife Emily of Ferdinand; one stepdaughter, Amber Wehr and husband Mike of Sharpsburg, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; five sisters, Marilyn Haefling and husband Ed of Evanston, Pat Hochgesang and husband Mike, Brenda Stallings and fiancé Curt Trainer of Jasper, Shirley Haug and husband Steve of Ferdinand and Donna Klein and husband Kim of St. Croix.

Funeral services 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church with burial to follow in Enlow Cemetery, Jasper. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.

Ferdinand American Legion Post 124 will have military services Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
